India's flagship carrier Air India on Wednesday signed a landmark agreement with the American aerospace giant Boeing Commercial Airplane for the purchase of 68 aircraft at an estimated cost of Rs 35,000 crore.
Boeing Company on Monday said the Indian civil aviation sector would require 856 new commercial jet airplanes worth over $72 billion over the next 20 years.
Kumar will succeed Dinesh Keskar, who returned to Boeing Commercial Airplanes earlier this year.
The Boeing Business Jet series are variants of Boeing airliners for the corporate jet market.
Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner.
Boeing had announced a further six-month delay for the first flight and initial deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner programme to Air India. A high-level Boeing team will discuss the fallouts with IA, including compensation in the coming week. The revised delays will have a significant impact on IA's growth plan and financial aspect. Apart from compensation, Boeing will also have to factor in the impact of the delay on the carrier's growth plan when computing for the same.

New airline Akasa Air on Monday said it is on track to receive its first Boeing 737 Max plane by mid-June and launch commercial operations by July. The airline on Monday released the photographs of its first Max plane from the Boeing production facility in the USA's Portland as it gets ready for delivery. "The airline recently reaffirmed its commitment of being on track to receive its first aircraft in India by mid-June and launch commercial operations in India by July 2022," its statement mentioned.
The aircraft, which has been grounded since March following two fatal crashes which killed 346 on board, is crucial to Indian low-cost airline SpiceJet's fortune, which has up to 205 aircraft on order. With the grounding, the airline's capacity expansion plan is suffering.
